Viber chat history guide
How to transfer Viber chat history from Android to iPhone
Switching phones can leave you with two different goals: continuing to use Viber on your iPhone and keeping your older conversations readable. They need different approaches.
The short answer
Viber does not currently offer an official Android-to-iPhone chat-history transfer. Its cloud restoration and direct Wi-Fi transfer do not provide a route between Android and iOS. If you have a supported ZIP or CSV text export, Migravi can import it into a separate archive on iPhone. It does not put those messages back into Viber.
Migravi is coming soon to the App Store. The import workflow below describes the app’s functionality; a public download is not yet available.
Can you transfer Viber from Android to iPhone officially?
You can activate Viber on a new iPhone, but activating your account does not migrate the old Android chat history. Viber’s official transfer instructions explain that chat history cannot be restored across these platforms. Read them before activating your new phone: activation deactivates Viber on the old phone.
Why a Google Drive backup cannot restore Viber on iPhone
Android uses Google Drive for Viber cloud backups, while iPhone uses iCloud. An Android Viber backup is not an iPhone restore file. Downloading it onto an iPhone, or copying it into iCloud, does not create a supported cross-platform restore.
Does the new Viber Wi-Fi transfer solve this?
No. Viber’s backup and restore guide describes direct Wi-Fi transfer for two Android phones or two iOS phones, using Viber 25.0 or later. It does not bridge Android and iPhone.
Viber backup vs. text export vs. Migravi archive
Before choosing a method, decide whether you need conversations restored inside Viber or a readable copy of old messages. A text archive serves the second goal.
| Approach | What you get | Android → iPhone history? |
|---|---|---|
| Official Viber cloud restore | History restored inside Viber under its restore conditions | No official cross-platform restore |
| Official direct Wi-Fi transfer | History transferred between supported phones on the same platform | No official cross-platform transfer |
| Supported ZIP or CSV export | A separate file containing exported message text | The file can be moved; it is not a Viber restore |
| Migravi import, when available | A searchable, offline text archive in Migravi on iPhone | Yes, for supported exported text files; no restore inside Viber |
| Third-party desktop migration tools | Vendor-specific workflows that may claim in-app restoration | Compatibility and results must be checked with that vendor |
We have not tested or endorsed third-party desktop tools. Their advertised restoration workflows are different from Migravi’s file-import approach. Check current device, operating-system and Viber compatibility before relying on a claim.
What to do before switching from Android to iPhone
- Keep the original device and your existing files. Do not erase your Android phone or uninstall Viber before checking what history you can retain.
- Keep an official backup for its supported purpose. It can help with same-platform restoration, but does not solve an Android-to-iPhone switch.
- Check whether you already have a text export. Migravi needs supported chat CSV files, individually or in a ZIP. A cloud backup or a file merely renamed to CSV is not sufficient.
- Save important photos and videos separately. Text-only exports do not preserve the original media for import into Migravi.
- Verify a sample first. Check message dates, your own messages and one-to-one chats before relying on an imported archive or deleting source data.
What if “Email message history” is missing?
Older guides often refer to this Viber menu item. Do not assume that it exists in your installed version. This guide does not promise that every current Viber version can create a CSV export. Migravi reads supported files you provide; it does not extract a history from Viber or generate the export. If you cannot obtain a supported file, this import workflow is not available.
How to read exported Viber chats on iPhone with Migravi
For Viber transfer to iOS as a readable text archive, the workflow starts with an existing supported export. Migravi runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
Keep an unchanged copy of the export
Save the original ZIP or CSV somewhere you control. Avoid editing its columns or changing its encoding in a spreadsheet before importing. Renaming an unrelated backup does not convert it.
Make the file available in Files on your iPhone
Move the supported file using a transfer method you trust, then save it where the iOS file picker can access it. Email and cloud providers may retain their own copies; moving a file does not remove those copies.
Choose the file in Migravi
When the app becomes available, open Settings and select the import option. Choose your ZIP or CSV files. Migravi can process supported chats from an export; ZIP imports allow you to select which chats to include.
Confirm your own phone number correctly
Your identity helps distinguish sent and received messages and classify conversations. Confirm only numbers that belong to you. Rejecting your own number can cause some private conversations to appear as Groups. Follow the phone-number troubleshooting answers if classification looks wrong.
Keep Migravi open until the import finishes
Large histories take longer to process. Check import progress and Import History. If the app closes unexpectedly, follow the recovery prompt when available and consult the interrupted-import FAQ.
Check and browse the archive
Compare several conversations with the source file, including older messages and dates. You can search inside a conversation or across the archive in Explore, star messages and revisit dates. Your imported messages remain in Migravi; opening Viber does not show them there.
Keep your source export even after a successful import. Migravi’s local archive is not a replacement for keeping an independent copy of the original files.
What this text-archive approach does and does not preserve
Photos, videos and other attachments
Migravi imports supported message text. A text export may contain labels such as “Photo message” or “GIF message” without the original attachment. A placeholder or Android-specific URI is not an accessible media file on an iPhone. Migravi does not transfer original media, read protected Viber databases, or provide a rooting or jailbreak workflow.
No supported export, no import
Migravi cannot reconstruct a missing archive from your phone number, a verification code or a Viber cloud backup. It cannot recover chats that are absent from the file you supply. Contact Migravi support about file compatibility before sharing private data; describe the format and error first.
Local browsing and cloud copies are separate
Migravi does not upload imported chat contents to Migravi servers, and browsing the imported archive works offline. Your original email attachments, cloud-stored exports and iPhone backups may still contain copies. Review those services and your device backup settings separately. See the privacy and backup FAQ for details.
Common questions about Viber Android to iPhone transfers
Will signing in on iPhone bring back my Android messages?
No. Account activation and historical-message restoration are different operations. Follow Viber’s official guidance before changing devices.
Can I open a Viber CSV export in the Viber app?
Migravi does not provide a route for importing CSV conversations into Viber. Its supported workflow displays your export in Migravi’s own archive.
Do I need a computer to use Migravi?
A computer is not required for Migravi’s file import if your supported export is already accessible in Files on your iPhone. Obtaining the export is a separate prerequisite.
Does Migravi reset my iPhone or replace my live Viber chats?
No. Its importer reads files into Migravi’s archive. It does not reset the iPhone or write messages into the Viber application.
Can I keep histories from two Viber numbers?
Migravi can retain multiple confirmed own numbers in one archive. Keep the first number confirmed when adding your second number. Compatible conversations may merge; this is not two isolated account profiles. Read the two-number import guidance before importing.
Is Migravi an official Viber product?
No. Migravi is an independent product developed by REPARIS d.o.o. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rakuten Viber.
Where can I download Migravi?
It is coming soon to the App Store. Check the availability section for the current release status. No release date or price is promised in this guide.
Check whether an archive fits your needs
If keeping exported message text readable on your iPhone is your goal, explore Migravi’s features and our detailed FAQ. If you need old messages inside Viber itself, Migravi does not provide that restoration.
